I usually let the text sit longer, go back to it, I usually let the text sit longer, go back to it, edit more, before I set anything. But I guess it’s appropriate that here I, mm, upchucked it all in a note over about two hours, let it devolve into incoherency, and didn’t mess around trying to over-work it the next day. Just let it be what it was & set.

Anzeigen Grotesk, Alternate Gothic, bulk in Tannhauser, which is one of my favorite faces for its own qualities but also for sentimental reasons, being one of my mother’s favorites first. I’ve got well over enough for this—probably three full founts in the case—although not quite enough Didot spacing, not in the whole shop :/ and no larger sizes of the face, so it’s tough to implement in most commissioned projects.

Anyway! This is sort of a coming out for me in an extremely anticlimactic way. I’ve been answering when asked and introducing myself to new people as such for a while but frankly I didn’t meet new people that often until recently, and mostly didn’t mention it to people who knew me already. Just been percolating on it. Didn’t feel pressed before to change my way of being around anyone or make any prints about it. Then it did press, sort of suddenly & strangely. Lots of reasons for that I could speculate on but shan’t.

Always grateful to anybody who bothers to read all the dang words I put on one of these, it’s a lot, and I’ve seen several responses to it now, all very gratifying or sweet or funny or kind in their own way. As usual I worried that this meant nothing outside my own head, but certainly it’s proven to be one of those things where, in being specific to myself as possible, it’s come back around to being something other people can see in themselves.

cooper black, venus extended, etc. wanted to do so cooper black, venus extended, etc. wanted to do something quick and a bit rougher before Wayzgoose, and then felt like i had to wait to post until it got a little sunny again.

the sun is hand-inked with orange and fluorescent red, impression pulled without register in the Poco proofing press, yellow wash slapped on with a brayer. i know i can be a little—uptight, as a printer. this is baby steps 😆 but i'm feeling out for the new freedoms i will enjoy, and i like these a lot.

Had these as a little die cutting demo at the Wayz Had these as a little die cutting demo at the Wayzgoose last week but there’s a small stack leftover so I finished them out for the Etsy store! Related thoughts and style to some other stuff I’ve done. All part of, hmm, studies for a larger project I’ve been percolating on for a while. Anyway if you’d like the tooth that came out along with the little print there’s a button for that :)

Set in Caslon 471.

Doing my dang best to finish some new things for @ Doing my dang best to finish some new things for @tacomaisforlovers this Sunday (27th)! This lizard is a wood block my grandmother carved something like 30 years ago, pre-arthritis. Love his funny little eyes.

The block was made for some kind of fabric printing—we haven’t found any samples of it to know what kind for sure—but anyway it isn’t particularly planed or level. I fixed what I could in the bed but even then there’s one toe that needs some touching up by hand. Pretty simple on the type form but I took some extra time with it, feeling picky about decorative pieces that go best together.

Lovely marigold yellow ink for @henrymandellstudio Lovely marigold yellow ink for @henrymandellstudio !

I always test the QR code to make sure it reads in color and, pleasant surprise, I found no issues with this one on a new-ish phone or ancient iPad.

Furthering my Impramatur for Poetry Purposes agend Furthering my Impramatur for Poetry Purposes agenda :)

(I found a couple different versions of punctuation for this excerpt, but the recipient had if I recall correctly first read the poem in a book they found in a used bookstore, and provided a transcription from that copy.)

Design by @fruitsuper for @kingcountylibrary 💙🤍 such a very clean & satisfying design for relief

The vacuum, my bestie, my buddy 😆 I suppose I could’ve backtrimmed all 4.5m sheets on all sides but I’m pretty sure that still would’ve taken longer than pulling out the vacuum between every pass.
Last minute restock again for the final sale of my Last minute restock again for the final sale of my season! I’ll be @thegrocerystudios from 2-5 pm this Saturday & Sunday, along with a bunch of other artists there AND @freshmochiart just across the street!

These little mini reloadable journals have been doing well which is great since they’re very fun to make :) I get to utilize all sorts of cloth & paper scraps & experiment with making one of a kind patterns. The books are sized so you can make your own reloads really easily at home—one signature is just 1 piece of 8.5x11 printer paper cut in quarters, 2 signatures/book, easy 32-page refresh. You don’t even really need to sew the signatures, even though I do; loose leaf they’ll stay in the cords just fine.
Only other printers would even know to ask for thi Only other printers would even know to ask for this and that’s the best thing about working with other printers :D All credit to @pipletterpress for hand-holding me through the color palette, and editing the details rendering this beautiful building they’re moving into. Can’t wait to see the space on Friday!!

Must reprint QUICK in time for sale @ the Mt Baker Must reprint QUICK in time for sale @ the Mt Baker Community Club this Saturday 🎉

My uncle Brian did the original linoleum block of these gremlin Santas and he is so funny about it. Mildly surprised when I tell him I am reprinting yet again. Of COURSE I am, they catch the eye everywhere I take them.

WHAT a cool weekend at Wayzgoose 2024 @hamiltonwoo WHAT a cool weekend at Wayzgoose 2024 @hamiltonwoodtype 💚💜 It was my first time attending and literally everyone I met was so welcoming, so kind, so interesting & interested in other people’s work and experiences, so excited to teach & learn & exchange knowledge. I didn’t take any GOOD pictures there, sorry, I just sort of swung my phone around wildly to show my parents & friends at home how cool the museum is and how much stuff is happening there, but here is only a sample of all the rad printed matter I got to bring home ✨

Thank you to @pipletterpress & LEAD for the opportunity to speak as a Print Futures rep, and the guidance that helped me make a presentation I can be proud of! Thank you to @gabbguy & @mintliu.svg for doing it beside me & making it easy to stand up there on the stage.

Thank you to all the Wayzgoose volunteers & organizers!! It was all very bird above the waterline from where I was standing but I know it was much harder than you made it look. & thank you to every speaker who brought their process to share—I am BUZZING with ideas, too many to ever do all of them, but maybe by next year I will have done some & perhaps 🤞 will see some of you there again & we can show each other what new ideas we’ve tried

@desertbusforhope starts today! 🎉🎉 I shipped @desertbusforhope starts today! 🎉🎉 I shipped off a prize this year which will be up for silent auction starting tomorrow, Saturday the 9th, around 6 pm PST 🎉🎉

Went for a different format of card deck this time—hanafuda is a Japanese deck structure where there are no pips or values printed on the card faces, only illustrations. Classic Hanafuda decks have suits themed on flowers and plants, in 12 suits of 4 cards each. I've done a little re-design themed around Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with each of the 12 suits oriented around materials, animals, or items in the game.

each card is so small—about 1 3/8 inch by 2 1/8—and current ones are this thick chip with laminated faces and some kind of slick coated paper over the back? Anyway mine are still chunky but by being two sheets of cross-laminated 120# cover. back sides with the Sheikah Eye printed from linoleum reduction; faces with hand-drawn lineart and little linocuts for each color.

i very much like the color palate that came out of it; since the pen drawings went down before colors i printed the grey first to find the bottom end of the value range, bookended it with the yellow, and filled in the middle. my favorite color of the bunch turns out to be the soft brown, or maybe the “gold” with no metallic in it.

and if you’re asking yourself, hey, even with overage it’s only like 5 copies of each card to get one perfect deck, why not hand color the cards? i also asked this. i tried some things and unfortunately did not like the texture at all. Only 88 little lino cuts would do for my brain worms.

anyway! check out the stream, check out the many many cool prizes up this year, & donate towards Child's Play :)
